St Paul's Church

Welcome to St Paul's

New worship space completed September 2012.

St Paul's is a lively and informal Church of England congregation in the heart of Cambridge. On a Sunday morning we welcome a diverse range of people of all ages and nationalities.  Having just undergone an extensive programme of refurbishment we're looking forward to making use of our beautiful new worship space!

What are we about?

We are a community of local people seeking, in the light of God’s work, to be honest about our shortcomings and to welcome all around the Lord’s Table. As a church we face an ongoing challenge:  we can welcome, include, accept and love; that is live in response to God’s grace and so bring life to others OR we can live lives prescribed by rules that constrict, condemn and exclude - which would be to deny the grace we have received. Those we encounter will be the best judge of how we meet the challenge and of our vitality as a community. Whatever happens, we will continue to journey together.

Easter Services
Good Friday Services
On this day we remember the death of Jesus; a solemn day; a day for quiet and reflection.  We spend three hours by the cross at these morning services.
9.30 am   A quiet meditative service upon the last hours of Jesus’ life
10.30 am   A more participative reflection upon Jesus’ death.
11.30 am   The Stations of the Cross. – A reflective service as we ‘walk’ with Jesus on his journey to the cross.
7.30pm - Sung and Spoken around the Cross.    An evening of worship and gratitude

Easter Saturday
6.00  Women of the Gospel - presentation with Middle Eastern Meal.
The women who Jesus encountered in his three years of ministry meet together after the crucifixion.  Around a meal they talk about what Jesus has meant to them and the change he has made to their lives.  During the course of this presentation a Middle Eastern meal is served to everyone.

Easter Sunday
6.15 am Sunrise Service followed by breakfast
We meet early just before the sun rises!  We begin our service outside in the dark around a brazier.  The Easter candle is lit and we proceed into a candle lit church.  We tell the story of that first Easter Day when very early in the morning , before sunrise , the women run to the tomb where Jesus is and there encounter the risen Christ.  A service of celebration.
9.00 am      Traditional Communion Service
10.30 am    Family Holy Communion - A more informal service of celebration with communion.
6.00 pm      Holy Communion Service in the Chapel using the Common Prayer Book
