Lee University students bid Cambridge farewell

Each January since 1990, a select group of students have ventured from Lee University, in Cleveland, Tennessee, to Cambridge, England, where they make their home for 11 weeks. This premier trip offers students the opportunity to earn 17 credit hours while touring the
United Kingdom and Europe, witnessing first-hand the historic sites they are learning about.

Classes are directed by a faculty member from Lee University, as well as professors from Cambridge and Oxford Universities, an expert archaeologist, and guest lecturers focusing on particular topics. In Cambridge, classes take place at the Centre at St Paul’s.

Within Cambridge, students live in the quaint and lovable Hamilton Hotel Bed and Breakfast. They visit Evensong at King’s Chapel, punt down the Cam River, shop in the open air market, climb to the roof of St. Mary’s Church for a picturesque view of the city and may also spend some free time serving hot meals to the elderly at the Centre at St. Paul’s at Friday lunch time.

From Cambridge, the group makes side trips to the homes of three of the most famous and influential authors in history: Shakespeare’s in Stratford, Wordsworth’s in the Lakes District and C.S. Lewis’ in Oxford. They also visit Edinburgh, Scotland, Wales, York and Durham and small groups travel independently throughout Ireland. The grand finale of the experience is a two week independently arranged backpack tour of the continent of Europe. Groups of 3 to 5 students arrange their own itineraries, travel, and accommodation. Cities most often visited include Paris, Prague, Budapest, Vienna, Salzburg, Munich, Rome, Venice, Florence, Interlaken, Madrid, and Barcelona.
