He probably went hunting tigers out in Indiya or watched red sails in the sunset where the blue of the night meets the gold of the day.

He didn't really want  to leave his little wooden hut. But if he had known about last Saturday's event, he would have picked himself up, dusted himself off and let himself go to the  swell-egant, elegant party at St Paul's.  Faced the music and danced to the vintage sound of the Footloose Dance Orchestra. Or at least used the opportunity to sell a few peanuts - nice and hot like the music and the band.

The Footloose Dance Orchestra was formed in early 2006 with the aim of recreating the music played by the great British dance bands and orchestras of the pre-war years.  Its repertoire draws extensively from the hits broadcast on the wireless and performed in local dance halls, theatres and picture houses across the country.

The lineup includes saxophones, clarinets, trumpets, trombone, piano and strings with superlative vocalists backed by a classic rhythm section of guitar, bass and percussion.

On Saturday, Hills Road was alive with the sound of music of a bygone era performed in front of a discerning audience of dancers and listeners. There was great playing, sensational dancing, lots of food and the inevitable fountain flowing with Belgium's finest chocolate.
