1 AUGUST: another brick in the underground wall(s)

Today has been about bricklaying. The floor of the chancel used to slope upwards towards the east window,  covering steps and permitting disabled access. The floor of the side chapel was higher than the rest. The floor joists of both sections have now been removed. Work today concentrated on constructing a brick base for new joists at the same level as the rest of the floor. Confused? You won't be when you see the results - a spectacular new oak floor with a stage under the east window.
