WE WISH YOU A WOMBLING MERRY CHRISTMAS
Womble suits are difficult to come by these days so we had to make do with the record. That was after the community carol service and after we'd resolved the grand piano issue (Thursday), the candles for the candlelight service issue and the distressing issue of the disappearance of the artwork for the Funky Days play. Thanks to Meg, Nicky and the gang for looking on the bright side and insisting that the show must go on. Local Villan Brian Green kindly donated mini cyclamens to decorate the tables. Mrs Gresham wore her Santa apron with pride and produced a fabulous feast of festive fare, assisted by our wonderful volunteers.

In his carol service address, Michael reminded us of the enduring power of love, particularly at this time of year, for loved ones who are no longer with us. We exchanged cards and gifts and coiffed a warming glass of sherry before tucking into turkey will all the trimmings, including red cabbage (yum), spruitjes and vintage cranberry sauce created by a wellknown Centre Manager. The absolute highlight of the first course was the first course. The highlight of the second course was Ellen Fleming's delicious home-made Christmas pudding with brandy butter: taste-wise and texture-wise a marvel to behold and savour. In the true festive spirit, Max agreed to be photographed with his wallet.

We were pleased to welcome a number of special guests, including Urszula Chojnacka, Project Manager of Cambridge City Foodbank, a joint venture by St Paul's, Cambridge Community Church and OLEM. Despite what politicians may say, there are hungry people in our community with no money to buy food. All our guests are special but none more so than the people who make Friday lunch happen every week: so hats off in no particular order to Jane, Ellen, Chris, Nina, Liz, Rodney and Diana, Mary, Ruth, Thomas, Nouhoun (Hi Nouhoun!), Sangita and last but by no means least, Norman, who does so much for the Centre on a daily basis. Special thanks also to Gail who now goes back to the United States.
