THURSDAY GROUP TRIP TO THE TOWER OF LONDON
We decided democratically the week before. The Tower of London came top of the list. King’s Lynn, Saffron Walden and Great Yarmouth (!) all received votes but the Tower was the clear winner. So that’s where we went, 19 of us, by train and by bus. It was sunny and warm on Wednesday, sunny and autumnally warm on Friday. But Thursday was a grey day. Were our spirits dampened by the drizzle? Not a bit. We queued with the millions of other tourists, posed for photographs with the churlish beefeaters and marvelled at the myth of the ravens never leaving the Tower. Their wings have been clipped so there’s no way they can escape.
