WEDNESDAY 15 June 2011

A young woman (if that's not too gender specific) came into the office this afternoon.

"Can I ask you something?" she said.

"Are you ... Do you...." There was a long pause as she stared at me without saying anything.

"The music has made what I wanted to ask go out of my head," she said.

The only music was the Bodywork singing rehearsal upstairs which was faintly audible below.
She turned and left but came back several minutes later.

She spotted  a green cigarette lighter on my desk.

"Can I borrow your lighter?" she said.

I handed it to her and watched through the gap between the office door and the door frame as she went outside and lit a cigarette.

At least she wasn't a potential arsonist.

"Thanks for the lighter," she said when she came back into the office, handing me an object.

"This one's blue," I said. "The one I gave you was green."

She took back the blue lighter and walked off.

And didn't come back. With or without the blue one or the green one.

Tomorrow we have our regular Thursday lunch.

Last week one of our regulars asked if he could bring his imaginary friends.

It's going to be an interesting day - but then it always is.
