ST PAUL'S ADVENT WREATH
ST PAUL’S ADVENT WREATH
The Advent wreath symbolizes the passage of the four weeks of Advent in the church calendar. It is a horizontal evergreen wreath with four red candles. Beginning with the First Sunday of Advent, the lighting of a candle is accompanied by a Bible reading and prayers. An additional candle is lit during each subsequent week until, by the last Sunday before Christmas, all four candles are lit.
As usual, St Paul’s had a very attractive advent wreath this year; HAD because on the evening of Saturday 11 December, someone stole it. That’s right: they took the church’s advent wreath and marched away down Hills Road with it under cover of darkness . It must have been deliberate - an advent wreath is hardly the kind of thing you can take away by accident. Will anyone who saw the incident or who can help the police with their enquiries, please call Whitehall 1212.
