LET ME TELL YOU, BABY, IT'S CALLED ROCK AND ROLL
 |
On a Saturday night in October they came to the Centre and rocked their socks off: Cambridge legends from the poptastic sixties, when ballads and calypso really had nothing on the rhythm that gets into your heart and soul.
But Roots of Cambridge Rock wasn't just a trip down memory lane for sixties survivors. It was also about raising money for a number of charities. So this week, some of the event's organisers and performers came to the Centre to hand over cheques to three organisations: the Syd Barrett Trust and local branches of the Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Societies
Roots of Cambridge Rock was represented by former drummer Jenny Taylor, Dave Parker (of Dean Parker and the Redcaps), Stephen Pyle, Mick Brown(who designed the accompanying poster) and Mike "Buster" Richardson (the guy in the poster in the white shirt). The cheque recipients were Rosemary Breen of the Syd Barrett Fund, Simon Bettanny of the Parkinson's Society and Firoozeh from the local branch of the Alzheimer's Society

The Kriterion, the Kinema, the Dorothy ballroom and many more places of local interest were fondly remembered, as was Roger Barrett who was responsible in a roundabout way for bringing everyone together.
