BATTEN DOWN ... THE BATTENS, INNIT? LOWER HALL FLOOR RELAID
A new oak floor was laid in the Lower Hall in August 2009. But there were problems from the outset. The oak planks split because they weren't properly supported by battens. So in the week beginning 9 August 2010, the floor was relaid with additional battens in order to make sure that every join receives the support it deserves. The Lower Hall was out of commission for a week. The new, improved floor is as visually spectacular as its predecesssor but now there will be no unsightly splits, irrespective of the pounding it receives (no stiletto heels please).
