June Trip to Aldeburgh

It has to be the seaside. But where? Hunstanton? Not again. Felixstowe? No way, although it does have a very good second hand bookshop. Wells-next-the- Sea? Going there with the Thursday group in July. Southwold? We went there last year. So how about … Aldeburgh. It’s on the coast and it has the best fish and chips in East Anglia. So that’s where we went one Wednesday in early June. It rained in Cambridge. In Aldeburgh, the sun shone.

Beach, fish and chips, cup of tea, ice cream. Classic.

Aldeburgh is a coastal town in Suffolk, East Anglia. It is notable for its shingle beach and fishermen's huts where freshly caught fish are sold daily. The internationally renowned Aldeburgh Festival of arts, which takes place at nearby Snape Maltings was created in 1948 by composer Benjamin Britten. Popular weekend attractions are the ancient Moot Hall (where the town council still meets today) and two family run shops serving fish and chips cited as among the best in the UK.
