So by Friday the new floor was 95% in place.  The day was spent filling the knot holes in the oak, sanding with 3 different grades of sandpaper and finally (at about 6 pm) applying the first coat of varnish.

Friday lunch for older people shifted sideways into the church with fish and chips from Deep Blue on Cherry Hinton Road (recommended) and mandarin orange cheesecake with mandarin oranges.

Surprise visitor on Friday afternoon was church seceratary Jo Brook, in one of her many hats (literally). On this occasion she was delivering copies of "The Friday", a new "Daily Telegraph" publication sponsored by Gordon's Gin.
