Hampton Court: who ate all the cheese sandwiches?

Thursday 28 May 2009. Destination: Hampton Court. Eleven of the usual suspects including Mikey Mike and JQ. Picnic lunch sandwiches with yummy cheese and tuna and ham freshly prepared just before we left. Two cars, maps printed out from the internet. Unfortunately we left the maps behind. Mike took the best sandwiches in the people carrier and made sure the pedal well and truly hit the metal. JQ did a detour and took the M4 turning instead of the M3. Result: Mike and his gang arrived almost an hour earlier and with nothing better to do set about consuming ALL the cheese sandwiches.

That's Michael stage right looking like a man who has thoroughly enjoyed a disproportionate number of cheese sandwiches. Apple juice and ham on brown bread provided no crumbs of consolation. At this stage, the rest of us cared not a jot about Henry VIII and his amorous adventures. What we wanted was cheese. Sandwiches. But they had been eaten. Literally consumed by our friends. So we had to content ourselves with exorbitantly expensive ice cream, a ride in a horse drawn carriage at the giveaway price of £3 per person per trip and a photo opportunity with two young ladies in Elizabethan costume. The sun shone and we had a thoroughly good time but some of us were left with a feeling of what might have been.
