1999 - 2009: ten years of Friday Lunch Club

It was 20 years ago today. No it wasn't - that was somebody else. It was 10 years ago - 5 February 1999 to be exact - that the very first Friday Lunch Club for "older people" took place at the Centre. Since then we've been down a fairly long and winding road to the present. But one thing has remained constant: Friday at 12 30 means it's time to chow down.

To begin with it was once a month, then once a week during term time and now it's every Friday, 52 weeks a year. Pictured above right in blue: Grace who was at the very first lunch in 1999.

Despite the appalling weather which prompted more than a dozen people to stay at home, the turn out was good. We welcomed many old friends from way back when along with more recent ones and half a dozen students from Lee University Tennessee on their Europe trip. Sherry, balloons and roast pork with roast taters and veg cooked by Jane Gresham - who could ask for anything more?
