The Happening: Thursday 29 October
Daddy, daddy, what's a happening?
A long time ago, my child, in a distant galaxy known as the swinging sixties, when guys were known as "cats" and chicks were, well, chicks, this mesmerising melange of independence and simultaneity, of music and poetry and painting and light came into being.

In a happening, several things happen at once, including nothing. Performers do not know what the others are going to do. The audience is part of the show, including coughing and shuffling feet. In fact everything that happens is part of the happening - something as sticky and ragged and confused as life itself (with moments of beauty you understand).

Performers included William Pryor, Andrew Rawlinson, Nigel Lesmoir-Gordon and Lucy Raverat. Peter Wynne Willson's light show was spectacular bathing and swathing the building and the performers in a succession of kaleidoscopic kolours spontaneously reflecting the experimental nature of the performance.

Final band concert at the Centre at St Paul’s: Friday 31 October
