Thursday 28 August 2008. As the photographs show, the sun shone on the righteous or at least on the Thursday Group on their trip to Wimpole hall. We made our picnic sandwiches at the Centre as we always do, which included Michael Beckett's usual contribution of egg mayonaise. There was also ham and two kinds of chicken on baguettes and everyone's favourite: mini pork pies. Michael can't eat ordinary wheat based bread so he spread his egg mayonaise on several slices of rye bread which he'd  brought along for the occasion.

Having parked in the Wimpole Hall car park at around 11 am, we decided it was time for lunch so we distributed the sandwiches from the boot of JQ's car. Denise lucked out with tasty looking egg mayo which JQ hadn't noticed was on rye. Denise ate at least half of Michael's lunch before  the error was discovered. As he was hungry he was reduced to peeling slices of corned beef, throwing the bread away and eating the corned beef neat.

To make things even more animated, Denise bought a handbag in the shape of a sheep and discovered the hidden ventroloquist in herself. The recipient of most of the sheep's attention was the very same clergyman whose egg mayo on rye had been snatched from under his nose. Still another good time was had by all. Nigel bought a book entitled "Marriage and Divorce" in the secondhand book shop which prompted Bruce to ask him "How is your wife?" We rode to the farm in the horse drawn carriage,  had tea in the cafe (£1.80 for a very small bottle of water) and later visited the house. Back at the Centre we polished off the remaining sandwiches and enjoyed the cupcakes provided by Christina Barry, to whom our thanks.
